ABOUT

Ari David (b. Romania) currently lives and works in Rotterdam. Their practice explores how the social is inscribed in the body, engaging with themes of identity, collectivity, and dissent. Through an interdisciplinary approach involving writing, video, sound, textiles, and performance, Ari attends to small gestures and everyday actions to reflect on how bodies are shaped within Western society.

The body often serves as a site through which they investigate how structures influence perception, access, and belonging. These concerns are not abstract; they are lived, felt, and negotiated realities. Through physical gestures, movement, voice, and stillness, they explore how bodies are disciplined, controlled, or pushed to the edge, and how they push back. Their projects frequently unfold over time, drawing on conversations, personal experiences, and accumulated materials to consider how knowledge, particularly under Western capitalism, is produced, circulated, and embodied.

Their works have been shown at WET Rotterdam, Available and the Rat, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, De Appel, Charlotte Street Foundation, National Museum of Contemporary Art Bucharest, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka, Salonul de Proiecte, tranzit.ro/ Cluj. Since 2022, they co-run an other world project space in Zuid Rotterdam.
